Dental Services
Oral Rehabilitation:
Oral Rehabilitation is the part of dentistry responsible for the restoration and maintenance of oral function, appearance, comfort, esthetics, and health of a patient who lost all or some of the teeth. In oral rehabilitation, virtually, all dental specialties are involved. The team in Williams Dental & Associates will be very happy and compromised to help you with your dental needs.
Occlusal equilibration therapy:
In Costa Rica, Dr. Williams was one of the first dentists that practiced Occlusal Equilibration Therapy (adjusting the way your upper and lower teeth bite together.) He studied occlusion at the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental education and has been practicing it for more than 35 years. In this dental procedure, which may be performed over several visits, Dr. Williams works altering the chewing surfaces of some of a person’s teeth in order to allow the jaw joints to be in the perfect location (centric relation) when the teeth are fitting together, making the patients have an ideal bite. By obtaining sufficient harmony between the tooth contacts, this procedure will help prevent any further damage or breakdown to any of the tissues involved in the entire system.
There are a number of different signs and symptoms that could lead to a recommendation for occlusal equilibration. These may include:
• Muscle-tension headaches
• Temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)
• Severe wear or chipping of teeth
• Loose teeth or abfractions
• Grinding or clenching
• Gum recession or other associated problems
Mercury Removal (protocol):
For more than 20 years, Dr. Williams has been treating mercury removal under the highest standard required procedures. By the time of removing a silver- mercury filling, he uses a high power suction device which does not allow the patient to inhale the mercury vapors released during the drilling, which as you might know, is the most critical step of this procedure, rubber dam to isolate the tooth, special metal cutting bur to prevent friction, and oxygen if required. (Kelation Therapy also provided if needed)
Dr. Williams only works with metal free materials to ensure the health of our patients.
Dental Implants:
If you have lost one or several teeth, dental implants are frequently the best treatment option you may be looking for. Despite Dr. Williams is a pioneer in the implantology field in Costa Rica and has performed many implant surgeries on his career, he is no longer doing the surgical step. Dr. Alejandro Saenz is our certified maxillofacial surgeon specialist who will help you in this step. Then, Dr. Williams takes over and will make the crowns or bridges that the implant or implants will support. Not everybody is a candidate for dental implants, so it is important for you to make an appointment with Williams Dentals & Associates first for an evaluation.
Endodontic treatment (root canal):
Root canal treatment is necessary to repair or save a tooth that becomes inflamed or diseased. During root canal treatment, our endodontist will remove the nerve and pulp and then the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. If the infected pulp is not removed, pain and swelling can result, and your tooth may have to be removed. The must common causes of an infected pulp are: a deep cavity, repeated dental procedures, and a cracked or broken tooth.
Periodontal treatment (gums):
Periodontal disease ranges from simple gum inflammation to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost.
The main goal of treatment is to control the infection and prevent bone loss. Our periodontist removes the plaque through a deep-cleaning method called scaling and root planning. The number and types of treatment will vary, depending on the extent of the gum disease.

Dental Prophylaxis
Dental prophylaxis is the cleaning of the teeth by a dentist or dental hygienist to prevent and lower a person's risk of oral disease. It involves removing bacterial plaque, food debris, stains, and calculus from the teeth performing both scaling and polishing. We do recommend you do this procedure every 6 months in order to prevent diseases.
Tooth whitening:
According to the FDA, whitening restores natural tooth color and bleaching whitens beyond the natural color.
If you are a candidate for whitening there are several ways to whiten your smile:
-
In-office bleaching. This procedure usually requires only one office visit. The dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect the oral soft tissues. A bleaching agent is then applied to the teeth, and a special light may be used. Lasers have been used during tooth whitening procedures to enhance the action of the whitening agent.
-
At-home bleaching. Peroxide-containing whiteners actually bleach the tooth enamel. They typically come in a gel and are placed in a mouthguard. Usage regimens vary.
-
Both techniques can be combined for a stabilization of the color after the office bleach.
